President / Chief Executive Officer
Benson F. “Buzz” Roberts is the President and CEO of the National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders (NAAHL).
Buzz was the Director of the Office of Small Business, Community Development and Housing Policy at the U.S. Treasury Department from 2011 to 2015. He was previously Senior Vice President for Policy and Program Development at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the nation’s largest nonprofit investor in low-income community development. He was involved in the creation of such federal policies as the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, the New Markets Tax Credit, the HOME housing partnerships program, the Capital Magnet Fund, bond guarantees for Community Development Financial Institutions, and a Treasury-HUD partnership to finance affordable rental housing.
He has been a board member of several national nonprofit organizations and coalitions and the author or co-author of various books and articles on affordable housing and community development.
Chief Operating Officer
Paul Haaland, CAE, is the Chief Operating Officer at the National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders (NAAHL). He joined NAAHL in April 2006, as the Director of Communications.
Prior to joining NAAHL, Paul worked in media relations and research for TRIP (The Road Information Program), a nonprofit group based in Washington, DC, from 1998-2006. From 1995-1998, he worked as a newspaper reporter for the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, and the Gettysburg Times.
He earned an MS in Management from the University of Maryland University College, and a BA in Honors History from Kenyon College.
Paul is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
Administrative Services Manager
Sara Olson is the Administrative Services Manager at the National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders (NAAHL). She joined NAAHL in October 2012.
Sara began her career as the Campaign Assistant in 2010 for Representative Pete Visclosky (D-Ind.). Subsequently, she served as the Congressman’s Press Assistant and Communications Director.
She graduated from Manchester University with a BA in Marketing.
